Chairman's Welcome

Introduction

Welcome to the Web Site of Penicuik Archers, a member of the Scottish Archery Association and the Grand National Archery Association. Feel free to check our web site for some general information. You will be able to view all pages except the designated Members only spot.

Archery is one of the few sports which caters for all age groups, all abilities and where able and disabled competitors shoot against each other in competition.

Within Scotland there are primarily two types of club, Field Archery and Target Archery, and it is into the later category that Penicuik Archers falls. The archers in the club have a variety of reasons for shooting. Some members shoot purely for enjoyment and to meet regularly, others who participate at Competition level, and some archers who do both. Archers from the club have represented Scotland at national level and travel throughout the UK and Europe to participate at competitions. Penicuik Archers also hosts some outdoor competitions and we attract archers from throughout the UK and indeed European competitors - you may have noticed lots of wee tents and targets on Penicuik High School Playing Fields with people wearing distinctive clothing (or occasionally waterproofs) during the summer months.

History

The club was originally founded during 1985 and received support in setting up this new venture from Beeslack Community Education Department. During the early years Penicuik Archers shot indoor rounds at Beeslack High School (which is still our winter home) and in the summer shot in various locations - at one point in time we shot on the original football field of Penicuik Athletic Football Club (now a TESCO store). Before moving in 2001 to our current outdoor shooting ground, which is based at Penicuik High School, the club shot at Broomlee School, West Linton, for several years.

If you are looking for more information about getting started in archery, have a look at the beginners course page.
